DR. WILMER

Education & Background

Dr. Wilmer has been a practicing dentist in the Richmond area for almost 15 years and is a graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. Prior to this she achieved her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Hollins University in Roanoke.

Dr. Wilmer followed in the footsteps of her grandfather and uncle in becoming an exceptional dentist and continues to share their passion and love for the profession and for her patients.

After working as an associate for three years, Dr. Wilmer found that her vision for her patients was different than most of her colleagues. In working with her personal functional medicine physician, she realized that she needed to incorporate the philosophy of functional medicine into her practice to find the root causes of her patients’ oral health issues- including skin wellness and sleep hygiene. With past experiences of loss from skin cancer, she made it her mission to add skincare prevention to her armamentarium, since poor skin health can also lead to poor oral health. Likewise, with personal losses to sleep apnea, Dr. Wilmer realized it was her duty to her patients to do everything she could to help patients be the healthiest versions of themselves, and not to focus only on their teeth. By focusing on the health of the mouth, skin, and the airway, Dr. Wilmer can optimize the health of the whole body and, oftentimes, improve patients’ mental health by doing so! Additionally, she collaborates with many other specialties to help her patients reach their wellness goals.

Memberships, Affiliations & Training

Dr. Wilmer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine, a unique honor that recognizes special competency in dental sleep medicine. Diplomates of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) have received the highest credential a dentist can earn in dental sleep medicine. They have demonstrated competency in dental sleep medicine by passing a rigorous written Board examination. Diplomates are recognized by patients, colleagues, and professional organizations in both medicine and dentistry as having met the highest level of DSM knowledge and is a certification that is limited to a very small percentage of dentists across the country.

Dr. Wilmer is a member of the American Academy of Facial Esthetics, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Virginia Dental Association, the American Association of Women Dentists (including the Richmond division) and is an OMDIB (Official Mommy Dentist in Business) and an avid Colorescience provider and advocate.

In 2017 she was chosen and inducted into the prestigious Pierre Fauchard Dental Society.

Dr. Wilmer is also a Botox provider, treating issues such as TMJ disorder, Sleep Bruxism, and more, and is a highly trained Fotona Lightwalker laser provider, treating issues from mouth ulcers and desensitizing teeth to snoring and more.

Her Mission

Dr. Wilmer prides herself on providing the highest quality of dentistry and healthcare and focuses on perfection, especially when it comes to aesthetics. Dr. Wilmer provides functional dentistry to her patients by being proactive and addressing the total body as an integrated system rather than just treating symptoms in the mouth.

When not sharing her passion for dentistry with her patients, she enjoys spending time with her family and 95lb. Golden Retriever, singing, hiking, and spending time at her oasis – the beach.

DR. BYRD

Education and Background

Dr. Byrd grew up in Harrisonburg, VA and is excited to be back ‘home.’ Dr. Byrd is a proud graduate of James Madison University, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology.

After college, she attended the Medical University of South Carolina where she earned her dental degree and completed her lifelong goal of becoming a dentist.

Dr. Byrd completed a general practice residency at the University of North Carolina where she broadened her dental and surgical experience.

After completing her residency, she married Dr. Richard Boyd and moved to Boston to work in private practice. They eventually returned together to Columbia, South Carolina.

While she and Richard enjoyed their time and many fun experiences in the Northeast and in South Carolina, they are excited to be putting down roots in Richmond, VA and settling into their home in Glen Allen, VA. Dr. Byrd and Richard welcomed their first daughter, Hadley James, into their family in early September and are enjoying spending time with family, friends, and their British lab, Lyla.

Her Mission

In her free time, Dr. Byrd enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, skiing, scuba diving, cheering on her favorite teams (Go Dukes!), and cooking. She and Richard have recently mastered pasta making and rolling their own sushi. Dr. Byrd shares our commitment to deliver a 5-star experience to our patients and looks forward to meeting you at your next appointment to continue to provide exceptional care as a member of the team at the Cosmetic and Laser Dental Spa of Richmond. EMILIE

Emilie is our periodontal hygiene therapist of almost 10 years, and has been in dentistry for over 15 years. She is with us full time Monday through Thursday, but has been serving as an educator at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Dentistry in their Dental Hygiene Program for 7 years. She completed her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Christopher Newport University (CNU), and her Bachelor’s of Science in Dental Hygiene from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

She is a past President of the Virginia Dental Hygienists’ Association (VDHA), and was awarded the VDHA Outstanding Member Award in 2020 and the VDHA Patricia A. Golliday Award of Dedication in 2021. In addition, she is currently serving as the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Vice Chair of the Committee on Policy and Bylaws for the 2022-2023 year.

When not providing care to our patients, teaching or serving as a volunteer leader, she is spending time with her husband and family. She enjoys gardening, cooking, hiking, and traveling to Disney.

FALLON

Fallon is our office Master Concierge Administrator and the Director of Sleep Services champion. She has been with us for 2 years, and has over 20 years experience in healthcare serving the public.

Fallon attended J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and completed the Certified Nursing Program along with pre nursing classes that jump started her career in the healthcare field. She loves helping patients be their healthiest version of themselves, and finding financial ways for them to do so.

When she isn’t working, she loves to spend time with her teenage son and family. She loves going to the beach, trying new restaurants, and traveling.

KELLY

Kelly is our amazing patient concierge dental assistant of 2 years, and has been in dentistry for a few years.

Kelly graduated with her Associates in Basic Dental at Savannah Technical College, and from Dental Assisting Institute of Virginia as Valedictorian of her class. She is also an experienced hair stylist.

When Kelly isn’t rocking out with Dr. Wilmer to provide top-notch care at the office, she is spending time with her four kids, husband and family. Kelly has a passion for continuing to learn and is always taking additional classes to increase the care she provides for our patients.

MADELYN

Hi there! I’m Madelyn, and I’m excited to be your Treatment Coordinator here at Cosmetic and Laser Dental Spa of Richmond. Originally from Lancaster, PA, I’ve been calling Virginia home for about ten years now.

Before diving into the world of dental care, I served in the United States Army, and I’m currently working on my Degree in Health Science. I’m all about learning and growing, both professionally and personally.

When I’m not at work, you’ll find me hanging out with my amazing daughter, Averi, getting lost in a good book, indulging my foodie side with new recipes, or playing volleyball in a fun social league.

I’ve been with the team for about three months, and what I love most is the incredible teamwork and the genuine relationships we build here. It’s fantastic to be part of a group that’s so dedicated to providing top-notch care and making every visit special. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and helping you on your journey to a healthier, more radiant smile!

CHRISTINA

Hi, I’m Christina, and I’m excited to be part of Dr. Sarah Wilmer’s team at the Cosmetic & Laser Dental Spa of Richmond! With over 21 years of experience in the dental field, I bring a wealth of knowledge and a passion for dental care to our office. I started my dental journey at the young age of 13 and have continued to develop my skills and expertise ever since.

I graduated with academic honors from Amelia County High School in 2008 and have had the pleasure of working in various dental settings throughout my career. I joined Dr. Wilmer’s team three months ago, and I’ve been thrilled to contribute to our practice’s commitment to cutting-edge technology and exceptional patient care.

Outside of work, I’m a dedicated competitive slow-pitch softball player. My goal is to play in all 50 states, and I’ve already hit 13! When I’m not on the field, I’m at home with my three dogs and three cats, enjoying their company and the joy they bring to my life.

What I love most about working here is the blend of fascinating technology we use and the wonderful people I get to interact with every day. It’s a pleasure to be part of such a dynamic and supportive team!
